Vine Oak
Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 303 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, straight trunk covered in knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is black with white speckles.
The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of rough, tiny, thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are generally amber.
In late summer it forms large, dark brown, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
The bark is frequently covered in moss.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
