Emerald

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is emerald, and is covered in sharp spines. The thick, gnarled, light brown trunk can grow to as much as 9 feet (2.7 meters) in diameter. Its silver branches are very short and thin.

The serrated-edged, 4 pointed leaves are found in washed-out purple, blood red and hazel varieties. They are fairly frail, and take little effort to detach.

It is steady-growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are brown at the sides and aquamarine at the center grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 38 curved petals. It has a strong scent that smells like burning wood.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the turquoise flesh is rough, and the hazel sap is thin.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
