Duskbloom

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in hard, silky, silver and white bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The small clumps of branches are very short and thin and are covered with small bunches of giant, very narrow and elongated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid pink or dark brown, with light grey dots.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, magenta blossoms with long, tapering petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like pepper.

In mid-autumn it produces large, pleated fruit. The clammy pink skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft violet flesh is savoury and syrupy. The yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
