Copperleaf

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This colossal flower grows up to 16.7 feet (5.1 meters) tall. Its copper stem is very thin, and the huge, subtle red or aquamarine leaves are thick with jagged edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

3 to 8 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 27 cm (10.6 inches) wide, with petals that are bright blue on the underside and white on the top. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 54 petals. They are sturdy.

It has a weak scent that smells like cheap aftershave, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
