Blackfern

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 191 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, wonky trunk covered in thick, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground, covered with small amounts of large, yellow-green needles. The needles themselves are rigid.

In late summer it produces giant, grey aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
