Violet Fruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in thick, rough, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.
The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of tiny, umbrella-shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either magenta or violet, with bronze lines.
In early spring, it produces many small, azure blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like misty mornings.
In mid-summer it produces , asymmetrical fruit. The rubbery purple skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy turquoise flesh is sweet and syrupy. The light grey seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
