Succulent Splitpetal
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is very thin and splits into numerous branching stems at the base, and the large, brown leaves are thin with irregular edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.
Each stem splits 2 to 8 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 14 cm (5.5 inches) wide, with petals that are pink in the center, vibrant purple in the middle and caramel at the edges. The flower head is largely flat with several tightly layered narrow petals. They are sturdy.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like wet dog, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.
