Turquoise Fireflower
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)This modest-sized flower grows up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. Its orange stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are very thin and straight, and split into numerous branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the tiny, gray leaves are light gray on the underside and are asymmetrical with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Each stem splits 5 to 10 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 35 cm (13.8 inches) wide, with solid florescent red petals decorated with turquoise dots and a brown central disk. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 10 raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.
It has a delicate scent that smells like fresh linen, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
