Zigzag Blaze Shrub
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 114 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has several narrow, straight stems covered in smooth, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.
The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with handfuls of tiny, very thin, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either orange or crimson, with hazel zig-zags, robust and crispy.
In late spring it produces a thick sheet of tiny, black flowers with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like alcohol.
It is suitable for making paper
Several parts of the creeper have medicinal properties.
