Silverbell Hazel

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 331 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in rough, silver bark, and inside, the very dense wood is gray.

The small handful of branches are long and thick and are covered with small amounts of sticky, small, stiff, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally hazel.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of giant, washed-out purple blossoms with many layers of petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late summer it forms small, white seed pods.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
