Red Sunflower
Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is thin, and the huge, orange-yellow leaves are fan-like with wavy edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.
Dozens of tiny flowers grow in bunches along the stem. The flowers are 10 cm (3.9 inches) wide, with solid red petals and a black central disk. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of widely spaced narrow petals. They are sturdy.
It has a powerful scent that smells like honeysuckle, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.
It comes in 20 varieties, each with a different petal colour.
It is suitable for making paper
