Red Velvet succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large caudiciform grows up to 89 feet (27.1 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is lime green, and is dotted with small vibrant red spines. It has a twisting, wide, gold trunk atop a thin stilted platform of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are slender and green and trail down to the ground.
The smooth-edged, wispy leaves are generally blood red. They are delicate, but take some effort to detach.
It is very fast growing, taking 4 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are brilliant blue at the sides and slate at the center grow at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. It has a delicate scent that smells like a damp log.
The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the brilliant red flesh is waxy, and the red sap is thin.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
