Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 66 feet (20.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, slanted trunk covered in rough, gray bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of huge, wide leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are red on the sides and olive at the center.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, indigo blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like blood.

In early autumn it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The hairy violet skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the crunchy red flesh is sweet and oily. The yellow seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

Several parts of the grass have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
