Indigo Petal

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its gold or caramel stems grow in bunches of 8 and are very thick with a curved tip, and the huge, gray-green leaves are very thin with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two medium-sized flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with solid indigo petals decorated with slate dots and a silver central disk. The flower head is largely flat with many widely spaced narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intense scent that smells like mango, and it has very little pollen, but can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.

All parts of the bine are edible.
