Burgundy Cube Flower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.0 foot (30 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is very thick, and the giant, yellow-green leaves are slender, pointed with serrated edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 16 cm (6.3 inches) wide, with pastel purple petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a cube made up of many widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has the faintest scent that smells like warm milk, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is visited by a large variety of them.


It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It commonly grows in large patches.
The sap is edible and slightly spicy.
