Prickly Silvervine

Climbing plant type: Vine (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized vine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 32 feet (9.8 meters)0. It prefers to grow on specific trees.

It takes 11 months for the silver stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 5 inches (13 cm) and are rough and prickly.

The broad, flat, smooth leaves reach up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) in length. They are found in brown and pastel blue varieties, and have tattered edges.

During late spring, the vine produces several large deep red flowers, and during the mid-summer, after flowering, it produces plenty of tiny berries.


It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
The pollen is extremely toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
