Garlic Blossom
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)This big flower grows up to 4.3 feet (1.3 meters) tall. Its pale green and slate stem is very thick, and the small, yellow-green leaves are 9 pointed with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Each stem splits 4 to 7 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with orange petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a dish with 54 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.
It has a powerful scent that smells like garlic, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
