Waterstem Bush
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This huge shrub grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 190 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has several flexible, crooked stems covered in hard, wrinkled, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.
The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of giant, wide, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in beige and red varieties, durable and smooth.
In mid-summer it produces thick bunches of giant, dark red flowers with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like sweat.
