This yellow-green moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In bogs.
It is big, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is extremely rigid.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release thousands of spores.

Several parts of the shrub have medicinal properties.
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
