It takes 4 months for the lime green stems to mature, by which point they have tangled themselves into thick mats with a diameter of 2 cm (0.8 inches) and are smooth and rubbery.
The thin, smooth leaves reach up to 3 inches (8 cm) in length. They are solid purple with brown dots, and have serrated edges.
During late spring, the vine produces thousands of small cyan flowers.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
