Sky Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, angular trunk covered in hard, silky, silver and white bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of tiny, thick leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue on the sides and subtle green at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, black blossoms with pleated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like warm milk.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, oval fruit. The clammy florescent blue skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is spicy, and the crunchy sky blue flesh is sour and very juicy. The deep orange seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
