Blackwood

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2444 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright, with thousands of twigs covered with sparse amounts of giant, gray needles. The needles themselves are strong.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, grey, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
