Mahogany
Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This large shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 94 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has many narrow, angular stems covered in very thick, ridged, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black.
The branches trail down to the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, cylindrical, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid blue with azure zig-zags, flexible and fuzzy.
In early spring it produces thick bunches of large, white blossoms with 6 flame-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like rainy days.
In late winter small long, tapering fruits ripen. The smooth light brown skin is thin and inedible, and the soft gold flesh is savoury and powdery. The brown seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
