Blue Trumpet Flower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.4 feet (43 cm) tall. Its pink-red stem is thick and splits into 5 branching stems at the top, and the miniature, brown leaves are light beige or dull orange on the underside and are stiff, pointed with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Dozens of giant flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with solid sky blue petals decorated with caramel dots and a blue central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of several tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like fermented fruit, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.
