Magenta

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 195 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous thick, straight stems covered in hard, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are short, thin and wispy with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, thin, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid magenta with cream zig-zags, resilient and smooth.

In late spring it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, blood red blossoms with fan-like petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like mango.

In late winter oblong fruits ripen. The crispy black skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the soft orange flesh is spicy and sticky. The bronze seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
