It takes 6 months for the yellow-green stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 3 cm (1.2 inches) and are tough and woody.
The asymmetrical, covered in fine hairs leaves reach up to 5 inches (13 cm) in length. They are a shade of brown that gradient shifts to olive at the top, and have ripped edges.
During late spring, the creeper produces a handful of large orange flowers.
