Burgundy Pine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized tree grows up to 11 meters (36.1 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wavy trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, dark green bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are very long and thin, with dozens of twigs covered with handfuls of miniature, burgundy needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces small, bronze, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is often home to a particular bird species.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
The leaves are bitter, but very healthy.
