Caramel Flower

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big flower grows up to 5.4 feet (1.7 meters) tall. Its moss green stem is wispy and splits into 4 branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the huge, caramel and silver leaves are wide with serrated edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

Two large flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 15 cm (5.9 inches) wide, with solid bright orange petals decorated with slate dots and a caramel central disk. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of raised narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like new books, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

It is suitable for making strong rope
