Burgundy Night Bloom

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is very thin, and the giant, gray leaves are asymmetrical with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single giant flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with petals that are generally orange; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is largely flat with 50 widely spaced narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like fermented fruit, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird and is ignored by most insect species.

It blooms only at night.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
