Copperfern

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized tree grows up to 57 meters (187.0 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 648 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, brown-green bark, and inside, the hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of rough, tiny, wispy leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant purple and gold.

In late summer it forms giant, grey berries.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
