Copperfern

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 486 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in thin, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of rough, large, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are grey and turquoise.

In late summer it forms small, white, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
