Azure Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The asymmetrical stem is yellow-green, and is covered in handfuls of rigid orange spines. The crooked, brown trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the top. Its silver branches are short and thin and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The small bunches of serrated-edged, kidney-shaped leaves are azure on the edges and sky blue at the center. They are resilient, and take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 46 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of light grey grows at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 22 curved petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like rotting meat.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the brown flesh is rubbery, and the olive sap is thin.
