Bloodflower
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)This large flower grows up to 2.4 feet (74 cm) tall. Its dark brown stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are wispy and straight, and split into many branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the large, blood red leaves are very thick with wavy edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.
Each stem splits 6 to 9 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 66 cm (26.0 inches) wide, with hazel petals and a cyan central disk. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 41 raised, narrow petals. They fall easily.
It has a fairly strong scent that smells like misty mornings, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
