Bloodflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its orange stem is very thick, and the giant, emerald leaves are wispy with smooth edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

4 to 6 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with blood red petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of dozens of widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like new books, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.
