Burgundyfern

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous tree grows up to 92 meters (301.9 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thick, rough, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy.

The numerous branches are short, thin and wispy, with thousands of twigs covered with thick bunches of miniature, yellow-green needles. The needles themselves are durable.

In late summer it produces small, orange, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It is suitable for making strong rope
