Silverfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This enormous fruit tree grows up to 63 feet (19.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, curved trunk covered in smooth, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of large, thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid silver with light brown lines.
In early spring, it produces balls of large, amber blossoms with needle-like petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like citrus.
In late summer it produces small, slender, 7 pointed fruit. The hairy pink skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy red flesh is spicy and savoury and very juicy. The caramel seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
