Burgundy Ash

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 80 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in very thick, rough, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow-brown.

The small handful of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with thick bunches of soft, giant, finger-like leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are cream on the edges and crimson at the center.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of tiny, cream blossoms with circular petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like cheap aftershave.

In late summer it forms large, gold, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
