Crimson Heartflower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its pink-red stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 6 and are thin and straight, and split into many branching stems at the base, and the tiny, yellow-green leaves are light slate on the underside and are wispy with irregular edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Hundreds of medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with solid cream petals decorated with peach dots and a blood red central disk. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of 5 raised, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like paint, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
