Copperleaf
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in very thick, waxy, black bark, and inside, the flexible wood is dark brown.
The branches are short and thin and are covered with small bunches of smooth, large, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are orange at the bottom and copper with black edges at the top.
In early spring, it produces handfuls of tiny, amber blossoms with 8 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like chocolate.
In late summer it forms small, intense yellow, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
The grass is bitter and overwhelmingly toxic and while grains are spicy and non-toxic.
It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
