Twistwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This large tree grows up to 61 meters (200.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 574 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, wavy trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of sticky, large, 8 pointed leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of deep blue that gradient shifts to green at the top.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of large, slate blossoms with oblong petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like citrus.

In late summer it forms large, orange aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
