Blackwood

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives seemingly forever, with many known specimen being tens of thousands of years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, wavy trunk covered in waxy, brown and grey bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright, with hundreds of twigs covered with handfuls of miniature, brown needles. The needles themselves are flimsy.

In late summer it produces giant, beige, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
