Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thick, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is light brown.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of small, broad, flat leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in cream and lime varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, indigo blossoms with 7 oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like cinnamon.

In early winter it produces , triangular fruit. The waxy brown skin is peel-able and sweet, and the very soft crimson flesh is sweet and oily. The light grey seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
