Brown Petal Perennial

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is very thick, and the large, gray-green leaves are spear shaped with serrated edges. 11 leaves grow at the base of the stem.

2 to 6 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with petals that are hazel at the sides and dark brown at the center. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. They are hardy.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like garlic, and it has very little pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
