Bloodwood Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large tree grows up to 73 meters (239.5 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 616 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in thick, waxy, dark gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The abundance of branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of rough, small, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to blue at the top.

In late summer it forms giant, blood red, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
