Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 183 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of waxy, small, spear shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either lilac, or blood red with violet streaks.

In late summer it forms giant, green, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It can survive a long time without water.
