Crimson Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive fruit tree grows up to 48 feet (14.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is black.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, perforated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in green and orange varieties.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, azure blossoms with 2 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like new carpet.

In late summer it produces small, perforated fruit. The fuzzy red skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft cyan flesh is bitter and spicy and oily. The crimson seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
