Fingerleaf Skunkflower
Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This modest-sized flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its lime green stem is thin and splits into several branching stems at the base, and the large, copper leaves are finger-like with toothed edges. 18 leaves grow at the base of the stem.
2 to 5 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 47 cm (18.5 inches) wide, with crimson petals that gradient shift to aquamarine on the outer edge. The central disk is cream. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 petals. They are hardy.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like skunk spray, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
