Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in ridged, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is brown.

The small bunches of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of huge, umbrella-shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of lime green that gradient shifts to green at the top.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, lime blossoms with 7 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like rotten meat.

In mid-summer it produces very large, perforated fruit. The leathery indigo skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is sweet and syrupy. The white seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
