Blackwood

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This huge tree grows up to 91 meters (298.6 feet) tall and lives for over 3,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 3417 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in thick, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground, covered with handfuls of huge, yellow needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, olive aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
