Silverberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This big fruit tree grows up to 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, light brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid silver with purple lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, caramel blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like chocolate.

In late autumn it produces tiny, oblong fruit. The smooth brown skin is thick and spicy, and the soft lime flesh is savoury and very juicy. The light brown seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
